Our Authentic Southern Indiana
Picture a close-knit community where families go back generations, locally owned is the rule, not the exception, and nature's finest hideaways are just minutes away. Imagine that this place, beautiful in both appearance and character, is also at the epicenter of a booming economic landscape, quickly creating vast job opportunities. It is also part of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the nation.
Sound too good to be true? Think again.

You really can have the best of both worlds in Southern Indiana. The conveniences that come with a modern, thriving economy and the security that comes from a rooted, authentic community, make Southern Indiana the perfect place to visit, explore and settle.
Our authentic stories about Southern Indiana focus on Clark and Floyd counties, including the cities of New Albany, Clarksville, Charlestown and Jeffersonville. They highlight the daring entrepreneurs who serve our community with sweet treats and handmade treasures. They feature authentic men and women who lead and preserve the areas we call home. These are stories of our growing business economy and the festivals that bring our region to life.

This site - a look into the community where we choose to explore, live, learn, work and play - was created by the IU Southeast Multimedia Journalism class during the Spring 2015 semester, as a way to tell the authentic stories of our region. The result is a product of the partnership between the IU Southeast students and One Southern Indiana, the local Economic Development Council and Chamber of Commerce for Clark and Floyd Counties. Then, the Spring 2016 Multimedia Journalism class continued this professional relationship and updated and added new content to the site.
Thirteen students contributed to this project in 2015, under the direction of Adam Maksl, assistant professor of journalism at IU Southeast. In 2016, eleven more students worked on the project under the direction of Jim Lang, adjunct instructor at IU Southeast and newspaper adviser at Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. The students focused on each of our four themes: Explore, Live & Learn, Work and Play. They produced written stories, infographics, audio/photo slideshows and videos. Kendra Barnes designed this website.
