River Ridge
During World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam the River Ridge Commerce Center was known as the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, manufacturing gunpowder. In 1998 the land was deemed surplus by Congress, who authorized the creation of the River Ridge Commerce Center for economic expansion.
River Ridge Commerce Center is part of the River Ridge Development Authority created in 1998 by the Commissioners of Clark County. Their mission is to turn 6,000 acres of undeveloped land into a private enterprise zones to help boost the local economy. This area, along the Ohio River, is the prime spot for new businesses as the building of the East-End Bridge is underway. From this area there is access to waterways, highways, railways and airways and two-thirds of the United States is a one day drive away.
In the future, River Ridge hopes to see larger companies occupy the Commerce Center. They are currently targeting food manufacturing, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing, electrical equipment and batteries manufacturing, IT services as well as scientific consulting.
